Meeting on Molesworth
Street for more than forty years!
Eblana Toastmasters Club is a member of
the Toastmasters International organisation
and was inaugurated 40 years ago in May 1959. Toastmasters was set up in order to
help people develop the valuable skills of communication and leadership.
The emphasis is on personal development of public speaking techniques, in an
enjoyable and encouraging atmosphere.
Eblana Toastmasters Club currently meet in :
17 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2.
Our meetings take place on the first and third Thursday's of the month at 8pm sharp.
What do we do?
Toastmasters was set up in order
to bring to anyone who is interested, the valuable skills of communication and
leadership. The emphasis is on personal development of public speaking
techniques, in an informal and encouraging atmosphere. Everyone who joins
Eblana Toastmasters Club starts off on the Communication and Leadership program, which is a course of 10 projects. Each
project requires you to deliver a prepared speech to your fellow club members
which is then officially evaluated. Although the subject matter of all projects
is entirely your own choice the objectives of each must be met in order to move
on to the next. The objectives range from simply delivering a speech within a
specified time limit to an audience (Stage One), to crafting a speech using carefully
selected words (Stage Five) and using eye contact, body language and vocal
variety in order to emphasise your points and to captivate your audience.
What are the benefits?
Personally, I have found
Toastmasters invaluable. I am a much more confident person since joining.
Speaking in front of a crowd is something that, like many people, I used to
dread. Now I look forward to it. I have increased my vocabulary, I am a better
listener and a better thinker. Toastmasters has given me the confidence and ability
to chair and actively participate in meetings in a way that I had never done
before. It's benefits are visible in every facet of my life, professionally and
personally.
Why should you join?
There is no reason not to. I can
safely say that you can only benefit from Toastmasters. The mood is always one
of encouragement and improvement.
Most people attend a few
meetings as guests before deciding to join. So please come along and see if
it's the sort of thing you'd like to do.
Where and When?
Eblana Toastmasters Club meets
on the First and Third Thursday of every month at 8pm sharp. As one of the many
skills to be learned from attending Toastmasters is that of good time-keeping,
punctuality is of paramount importance. Our meetings always start at 8pm sharp
